| BELLGLIDE was fronted
by Kate Gregory (known as Slappy), a 22 year-old female student at
the local University (UNC-Charlotte). Slappy's knack for good vocal
melodies as well as her strength at playing piano and rhythm guitar,
brought immediate cohesiveness to the group's already solid playing.
The fact that Slappy had grown up as an army brat living in England,
Turkey and the U.S. (Alabama!) just made things all the more interesting.
Bellglide was formed in 2002 and generated a substantial and loyal
fanbase. They recorded an album's worth of material with Mitch Easter
(R.E.M., Pavement, Dinosaur Jr.) at Fidelitorium Studios. Three of
these songs can be heard on an independently released self-titled
EP released in December 2003, which received extensive airplay on
college radio in the Southeast. |
